Thornton Curtis, St Lawrence Church

The HLF and English Heritage funded the repair works at Thornton Curtis through the Listed Places of Workship Repair Grant Scheme.

The Quinquennial Inspection found the tower stonework to be in a state of serious decay, with much of the chalk clunch disintegrating. An experienced stonework contractor was engaged to rebuild substantial sections of the tower, and undertake other remedial repair works including reinstatement of the West window which had required re-leading.

This work took place in 2012/13 when Lucy Stewart worked for Wiles & Maguire in York.
