Brought up discovering Scottish castles and exploring ruins all over the country, Lucy knew from an early age that buildings and their shapes, colours, textures and history were what really interested her.
She studied architecure at Edinburgh College of Art, enjoying the majestic environment of a capital city combined with the close knit artistic community of the college. Following a year out working in Bath, she returned to complete her studies knowing that conservation would be her specialism.
After a year working with Simpson & Brown in Edinburgh in 2005/6, Lucy moved to York where she has worked with a number of well known specialist conservation firms including Wiles & Maguire and Ferrey & Mennim.
In 2009, she was lucky enough to be awarded the SPAB Lethaby Scholarship, and spent nine months travelling the country meeting all the top conservation experts and trying her hand at a wide range of building trades and craft methods.
In the years since, she has worked on consolidating her skills, and has worked on a wide variety of buildings including many parish churches, buildings for the National Trust, and Durham Cathedral.
A close association with the SPAB has continued, and since 2010 Lucy has been a member of the Casework Team, assessing Listed Building Applications from across England and Wales. SPAB Philosophy continues to be a leading force in her approach, and a respect for the development of buildings and ensuring their proper care and maintenance is a key part of how she works.
Since summer 2015 Lucy has been an active Committee Member for SPAB Scotland and is closely invovled in organising and promoting events to raise public awareness of conservation.
Lucy is fully accredited in building conservation, and is a Board member of the AABC Register which is proving to be a rewarding position.
